    Shelter

A common myth is that most people become homeless is because they are lazy. While that is certain true in some cases, many who become homeless are working or had been working for a long time until something caused them to lose their employment or source of income.

It is very to become homeless in today's society if you are at the lower end of the economic spectrum, especially if there is no extended family. A person making $9 per hour makes about $1100 per month after taxes. A decent 1 bedroom apartment with utilities costs at least $600 per month. A cheap car payment and gas to get to work would add another $200 a month, leaving about $300 per month for food, gas, clothes, medical expenses, etc. If there are children, add additional costs for school, clothes, food and additional bedrooms.

Even with all these expenses, those at the lower end of the economic spectrum tend to get by, until something unexpected happens. be they are laid off, or they get sick and lose their job. Sometimes the partner they were depending on leaves or gets arrested. All of a sudden, what was barely possible, becomes impossible. They have nowhere to live, and nowhere to turn.

When this happens, St. Anne's is there to help.

    Men's Shelter

St. Anne's main men's dormitory has beds for 80 men. There is smaller dormitory with 12 beds that is used by those who work the night shift, and 5 rooms with two beds each form use by those in transitional programs. These dormitories are on the second floor. Check in is between 6PM and 8PM with beds being offered on a "First Come, First Serve" basis for those who are not in one of our programs. All men are required to shower each evening and checkout is at 6AM. If someone has a job with non-regular hours, we will work to accommodate that individual.

    Woman's Shelter

The main women's dormitory is on the third floor and has 12 beds. There are also 3 family rooms that are used for mothers and their children, a laundry, and showers.
